Fake it 'til you make it

Fake it ‘til you make it.  Sherri Olsen first introduced me to this concept.  She was my career/life coach back in 2004…way before I had my career & life all figured out.  (That’s a joke.)

At the time, I think I was preparing for a job interview and needed that extra little boost of confidence.  I wasn’t quite sure that I was qualified for the job.  But she said something that stuck with me:  When you start acting “as if,” you actually “become.”

> I interrupt this story to tell you some exciting news:  My Moo Minicards arrived this week!

Over the past year or so, it's felt really good getting my photos out into the world.  I want to share more.  But when someone asks for my contact info., handing them a business card from my day job doesn't feel quite right.  So what is a girl to do, but Moo?  [sorry, it's getting late.. :) ]

(It reads: Kate Daniel - Photographer   Artist   Dreamer)
To be honest, I thought long and hard about ordering these.  Actually, the ordering part was easy; it was deciding what to write on them that was the difficult part.

I mean, am I really a Photographer?  Am I really an Artist?  Am I really a Dreamer?  One of these, I can definitively state, “YES!”

Fake it ‘til you make it.  We all start somewhere.  When you start acting ‘as if,’ you actually become.

I mean, it feels really good.  It feels right.  It feels authentic.  And isn’t that the whole idea anyway, to bring more of these feelings of excitement, thrill and passion into my life?

So there you have it.  I am throwing it out to the world.  I am a Photographer.  I am an Artist.  And I am a Dreamer.

I am choosing to fake it ‘til I make it.  And if I never “make it,” then at least I enjoyed the ride.  But what does “make it” really mean anyway?

I’ll save that for another day...
